First Impressions

It took some serious thought before I decided which story from the library to begin with. With some help I was reminded of one of the very first incidents that occurred when I got my downtown job. Now even though this incident didn't happen to me directly, it clearly set the tone for my time here. The story goes something like this.

A female coworker was approached by a man; for the sake of simplicity we'll call him Mr. Egyptian. You'll see why we call him that in a moment. Mr. Egyptian politely asks the unsuspecting coworker for a Comment Form; which is usually for patrons who wish to complain or suggest a change in the library's services.
The female coworker walks away for a moment while Mr.Egyptian produces a felt marker and begins writing away on the back of the comment form. When he's done he hands over the form. The female coworker takes a look at the form and says,
"Sir, I can't read this it's in another language."
To which Mr.Egyptian replies,
"Hold on to it. There's a Canadian General coming to pick it up and he'll know what to do with it. It's top secret and it is in ancient Hieroglyphics only he and I can read."
"Oooook." *backs away slowly*

I got this story second hand from an incident report on my third day on the job and needless to say I laughed more than a little. I knew the downtown library had a reputation for having some weirdos but this was my first true taste of it.

Now this post would be a total waste if I didn't include a picture of said hieroglyphics. I tried digging through the incident report archives to no avail. Instead I shamelessly stole this from google images.

More stories to come... with less of a delay this time.
